Texas Aggie Grads | Top TWO Areas of Houston | The Heights and River Oaks!

Howdy upcoming Aggie grads!
You’ve got that great career coming up in Houston, now it’s time to get that perfect apartment!
I want to chat with you about the latest AREA TRENDS for Aggie Grads moving to Houston!  Specifically, where are Aggie Grads moving in the last two years the most when they move from Aggieland and start their new careers in Houston!  This is based off of my experience helping grads of all schools that are moving to Houston and which particular apartment buildings they are actually choosing.
Note: Areas have CHANGED a lot recently! You can’t rely on three year old info, it’s now either incorrect or atleast has changed a lot for several key areas that Aggie Grads love! So if your Aggie brother that you knew when you were a freshman graduated three years ago and liked an area…that area might have changed a lot since then. It’s important to get the most current info!
Aggie Grads: Before we talk about those areas, here’s four main things to keep in mind when thinking about the new Houston area you want to live in:
– Is it in an area that is popular with other RECENT Aggie Grads?
– Is it SAFE?
– Is it reasonably close to your new career work location?
– Is it near cool attractions and restaurants etc that will help you meet other recent grads?
I’d ask yourself those questions about any area you might be considering.
And: Text me anytime for more info here: 214-492-9791
And this is also SO important to know about Houston: Houston has NO zoning!  That means you can have a beautiful apartment building and then a super dump tattoo parlor or grungy gas station right right next to your apartment building door! This is true even in the best areas of Houston.
So I’m writing this article to you so you will have some good solid *LATEST* info about the better areas of Houston to consider for your new apartment.  I will be updating this as it changes as well.  Here we go!

TOP TWO HOUSTON HOUSING AREAS  for AGGIE GRADS

This list is specifically in order  of popularity with recent Aggie Grads! So, let’s chat about them!  of Houston for recent grads!

Houston Heights !!

The Heights is an exciting area in the Inner Loop that starts about 15 minutes north of Downtown Houston.  It’s actually an older area that is being quickly revitalized! It now has amazing shops, restaurants and great walkability!  And as of about last year, the Heights has TAKEN OVER as the #1 area for recent Aggie Grads in terms of popularity!  It’s beating out other areas that used to be more popular, including MIDTOWN.
The Heights has two distinct sections:
– The LOWER Heights
– The UPPER Heights
The Lower Heights is the more popular area. It’s more well developed, including more shops, restaurants and night spots.  Also has a great art focus there, including local breweries and great murals!   And on top of that: It also has quicker  access to great features like the BAYOU TRAILS nearby. The Bayou Trails is a 10 mile west to east path that goes way past the inner loop on the west side and then all the way to downtown on the east side.   Make sure to watch MY VIDEO on the Bayou Trails! It’s truly a way to de-stress and also a fantastic social scene for young Aggie grads!
The Upper Heights is still being developed. The neighborhoods are more uneven there. There’s not as many newer apartments there either (with some exceptions).   It also can be a much longer commute to downtown from there.  Unless your work is located there or north of there, I’d recommend to focus on the LOWER HEIGHTS.
You will have plenty of superb apartments to choose from in the Heights! Several newer ones now or recently built ones.  And several that are near that Bayou Trails that I mentioned above.  Oh, and did I forget to mention, Ags… HEB is in the area! It’s the best! Your days from College Station visiting the local HEB – or getting their stuff delivered to us like some of us lazy Ags (haha) – well they will continue! HEB is near the lower Heights now off Wash Avenue.
Here’s a few of my favorites to start with. Check out the video detailed tours of these, so so fun!   Text me for questions on any Heights apartments anytime!

River Oaks

So west of downtown Houston about 10-15 minutes is an area called River Oaks. (Note: This is still within the boundaries of the INNER LOOP – super important to be in the Inner Loop if you can, because the Inner Loop area is by far the highest concentration of recent grads.)   River Oaks  is an “old money” part of Houston with huge million dollar houses. It also has a very secure feeling and has a lot of beautiful mid-rise and high rise apartments.  It also has a TON and I mean a LOT of very tempting places to shop! And Eat! And Relax!
There are several highlights to the area, including:
– The River Oaks District Shopping Center is a California style outdoor mall there that has an amazing feel – watch my video on this!
Memorial Park!  This is an immense park that is on the north side of River Oaks. You can truly get lost in this huge area.  The park has several trails you can hit on bike, on foot and more.  They also have a central air conditioned building where they hold events, a store and more.  Watch a few of my videos to see more about this!
Running Trails! There’s also plenty of running trails that wind through this area. It’s a continuation of the Bayou Trails mentioned above.  So you can still have that great natural feel anytime, except the trails turn into a full blown park at the end (Memorial).
Beautiful Higher End Apartments – Some of the best and newest apartments in Houston are here. The area is extremely desirable!
To explain the popularity, it has to do with a positive draw – just gorgeous trees and outdoor things to do everywhere. But it also has to do with a negative push – the other areas that were popular like MIDTOWN are not as popular anymore. No new apartments are being built there either. The newer apartments are now here and in the Heights area (and other areas too).
The apartments in this area are new and quite gorgeous! Here’s just three choices out of the many available! Note: It’s important to get good quality information about each potential apartment due to what might be close by in the area – as well as if they have any rent specials that might reduce the price.  That’s why our free service will help sort all of this out quickly and get you places to go visit…and oh, we set up your tours too, all free, Ags!

Now, here are those Three Popular River Oaks Apartments!  I visited them in person and took lots of videos, this is like a video TOUR of them! Note, these are just a few of the many video tours available here. Make sure to reach out to me with a text to get the best advice on which ones are the best fit for you.

Grey House River Oaks
Bowen River Oaks
Hanover Parkview
BONUS: Washington Avenue
This is an area also west of downtown that is bordering the Heights and super close to River Oaks.  This area is very special too! I’m mentioning it because it kind of blends into the Heights area and it’s also very popular.    It’s been known for YEARS as a place with exciting things to do at night.  And now great new apartments are being built here.  Even though this isn’t officially a TOP TWO area, I’d still add this to your search because it’s so close!
This area has several key features that would make your life as a new or recent grad fun!  They include:
– Right next to the Bayou Running Trails!
– Right next to unique restaurants and night life of the famous Washington Avenue!
– Still very close to downtown, the Heights and other great areas!

Midtown Houston – Stay away!

Midtown Houston just a few years ago was the number one place for new and recent grads. It is directly connected to downtown so it’s easy to get to work if your employer is there.  It also has some great walkability to cute restaurants, coffee shops and more.
However, it’s no longer as popular. In fact, it might even have safety issues now.  There’s not really any new apartment buildings being built here.  The excitement seems to have shifted to The Heights!  If you want to meet other new Aggie grads, this is NOT your area to live in.
