Top Five Dallas Housing Areas for Aggie Grads

Howdy Aggie Upcoming Grads! Got that Dallas dream job? Perfect, time for housing!
I’m going to give you a good overview of some of the best areas to live in Dallas. This is from an Aggie New Grad perspective only and primarily for Aggie singles and couples.  If you are thinking about family areas, then the areas would be different!
Specifically, I’m talking about areas that are super fun and great for young grads in general, to connect with other recent grads. I’m also include areas that have been super popular for Aggies!  But I’m also going to take into account SAFETY. Because if you have a great place, but it’s in a SKETCH area, then is it really worth it? Your answer should be a big FAT NO! By the way, you might also see the areas that I recommend to AVOID. They are SKETCH all the way. They often have safety issues similar to College Station Northgate – times 4 – in some cases!
Most of the larger corporations in Dallas that are hiring AGGIES are located in Uptown Dallas, Downtown Dallas, Midtown Dallas or nearby, such as Addison or Las Colinas. So it’s no surprise that the areas you see here will be areas that are reasonably close driving wise to get to those areas.    I do have a separate article I’m writing to cover THE BURBS of Dallas. And yes, there are good areas there (and also areas to avoid!).   By the way, text me anytime for more details!
Now, let’s get to those Top Areas for RECENT Aggie Grads!

Uptown Dallas
Yes, OF COURSE! Uptown Dallas is the most popular area for all recent grads, including Aggie Grads.  It’s like College Station 2.0. Super easy to meet other recent grads, so many things to do, so many fun places to eat at.   And then there’s the amazing Katy Trail nearby – a 3.8 mile running trail that has become a mix of social scene and getting a workout.  Check out what that Katy  trail looks like!  It’s also becoming the Dallas business address of more and more of the firms that are hiring Aggies.
Uptown Dallas actually has several “pockets” to consider that are very different! I would spend time researching these areas to see what your best fit is, but here are those key areas of Uptown:  West Village, State Thomas, The Pearl and Inner Uptown (my own name)!  I’m going to have an article just about Uptown soon for you to fully cover it. For now, just text me to get more info!
Victory Park
This is a stunning area of high rises with a great location right next to Uptown Dallas. This is like a grown up version of Uptown Dallas, which we just talked about!  It’s essentially an entirely new area that was just flat ground before. It was created from the ground up to be a hot spot for business professionals.   The key features of this area are the American Airlines Center. Think Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars games!  And also think an uncountable number of concerts from the world’s most popular performers.   But then add in a super cool area of restaurants, night spots and more.  And everything is VERY NEW feeling, because it IS !   Finally, this is where the KATY TRAIL starts that I mentioned above.
The only thing I would say that is you need to love excitement! There are parts of it that are quieter, but this is a high action, high fun area.   AGGIE THUMBS UP!
Midtown Dallas
A lot of new Aggie grads either don’t want to spend the money to be in Uptown.  Or they want a little more low key feel, to not be in the city as much and feel like more of a burb.  Midtown Dallas fits that PERFECTLY.  It’s super close to Uptown and Downtown, about 12-17 minutes north. It covers a bigger space of land and has more trees and scenery, but it also has plenty of shops and restaurants and things to do. It definitely has a recent grad feel here, but maybe just more chill!   And you typically will spend 10-20% less on rent here.  AGGIE THUMBS UP!
Las Colinas – this is a superb area and often overlooked.  It was built from the beginning to be an area just for professionals so it has a newer feel.  It has a beautiful canal area with water and restaurants. But it also has a vibrant night life and restaurants area dominated by the Toyota Music Factory – a unique live concert venue.   The location is about 15-20 minutes from Uptown and is a smooth commute.
The area is generally VERY safe. And there are quite a few newer apartment and even high rise buildings in this area.  Add on top of that that it’s super close to the Airport, which is important to consultants.  Finally, rent prices are roughly 5-10% less than Uptown.  Las Colinas should definitely be in your consideration!  AGGIE THUMBS UP!
KNOX/ Henderson – Knox Avenue is a superb area to live that is just about 7 minutes north of Uptown.  Similar to Victory Park, it’s a bit more sophisticated and grown up compared to Uptown.  It has some of the most unique restaurants and boutiques in Dallas.  It also has a wonderfully walkable feel – and frankly feels very secure.   And there’s nothing quite like the Trader Joe’s that’s near Knox.
Note: Knox Avenue is west of 75/Central, the highway that runs north and south.  The other side of Knox…that’s where Knox Avenue becomes Henderson Avenue. Henderson Avenue is much more eclectic. It can be super fun to explore boutiques, antique stores and trendy night spots here. But in general the Henderson side is NOT as safe.
I mentioned that Knox Avenue is sophisticated feeling. This is partially because of the Dallas “old money” area that directly borders it – Highland Park.  You can almost literally feel the prosperity – the land here is quite valuable! The Knox section also has McKinney Avenue running through it, so you can take that back quickly to Uptown and beyond. It also has the Katy Trail running right by it!    Note: Rent here is more expensive…very comparable to Victory Park. But in many cases, well worth it!  AGGIE THUMBS UP!
