Howdy Aggie Upcoming Grads! Got that Dallas dream job IN THE BURBS? Awesome, this will help you out big time!
I’m going to give you a good overview of some of the best BURB areas to live in Dallas. This is from an Aggie New Grad perspective only and primarily for Aggie singles and couples. And don’t worry, it’s ok and even cool to live in several areas of the BURBS nowadays!
So, why would a new Aggie grad locate in THE BURBS? Several reasons!
– Promixity to their office if that is the case
– So many new and fun restaurant and night spot areas (Legacy West in West Plano, The Star in Frisco, Grandscape in The Colony)
– Apartment Buildings in THE BURBS tends to have more NEW choices to consider.
– Apartments tend to be a bit cheaper there too!
– There’s more greenery and wide open spaces in the burbs.
– There’s now a good amount of new grads there. It’s not going to ever top Uptown! But I consider it an acceptable amount now!
Specifically, I’m talking about BURB areas that are super fun and great for young grads in general, to connect with other recent grads. I’m also include areas that have been super popular for Aggies! And I’m also taking into account SAFETY, always. That’s a definite advantage of the BURBS, it can be much easier to pick a safer area. To compare this to living in College Station, burb living would be like living on the other side of Highway 6 instead of the side by campus and right by NORTHGATE. haha!
There are so many corporations that are now located in the burbs! Particularly in the West Plano or Frisco areas, and also in Addison! These large corporations are absolutely recruiting the best campus hires, and of course that means Aggies!! Some of those corporations include: JPMorgan Chase, Boeing, PepsiCo, FritoLay, Protiviti, RSM and more! And you gotta know that they are hiring AGGIES! of the larger corporations in Dallas that are hiring AGGIES are located in Uptown Dallas, Downtown Dallas, Midtown Dallas or nearby, such as Addison or Las Colinas. By the way,

Getting to the burbs is not this huge commute you might think. It’s pretty quick using 3 roads in particular:
– the North Dallas Tollway – quick shot from Uptown to Addison and Plano and Frisco
– G Bush Tollway – YEP, it’s just like College Station having G Bush right by campus, except this is an east west tollway to goes a LONG way! It’s a great connector!
– 121 – This is another East West Tollway that is located more north than the G Bush. It runs through the boundary between Plano and Frisco and goes all the way to the Airport and even further!
Now, let’s get to those Top BURB Areas for RECENT Aggie Grads!
TOP 5 DALLAS BURB AREAS FOR AGGIE GRADS TO LIVE
Frisco Texas
Ok so let’s start with the place that might seem the total BURBEST of the Burbs, Frisco TX. You might have heard how it’s a very family friendly place, and that’s true. But it’s also been a huge area of development for some of the best apartments in all of Texas. No joke! Particularly, the apartments near the North Dallas Tollway are super high quality and typically great prices in comparison to areas like Uptown. They are going to have a good concentration of other recent grads there too. In particular, apartments near THE STAR area are super fly. Also, apartments near Main Street are also superb! That’s because in both areas there are more NEW places that have great amenities and walkability. So if you have a job anywhere from Addison and going north of that, put Frisco as a strong consideration! AGGIE THUMBS UP!
West Plano
I’m saying West Plano in particular, not PLANO. Plano is known to be the true BURBS, with many residential areas. It’s a very wide and large city that just goes on for miles. It’s actually divided into three areas: West Plano, Central Plano and then East Plano. I’m talking mainly here about the West Plano area. The area is centralized around the North Dallas Tollway. That is where you will find the more desirable shops, restaurants and places to live. And that’s also where you find LEGACY WEST, which is unquestionably a very big draw for recent grads! It’s like an outdoor California mall with very trendy and fun restaurants and night spots. West Plano directly borders Frisco, so I’d recommend checking out Frisco if you are interested in Plano, especially the south part of Frisco near the Tollway. Fantastic area! AGGIE THUMBS UP!
Addison Texas
Addison Texas is a good choice if you want to be just about centrally between Uptown and Plano/Frisco. It has a TON of restaurants and shops and night spots especially on and near Beltline Road. One thing about Addison too is that it is SO SPREAD OUT. There are lots of things to do, but there really isn’t a “walkable” area that has shops and restaurants, like West Plano, Frisco and Uptown. But there are some cute and recently built apartments there that are worth checking out. As I mentioned above, Addison is often chosen by recent grads even if they work in Plano, because it’s a good middle point to allow you to check out Uptown and other night life heavy parts of the city.
Las Colinas
Note, I did include this as an area for the Top 5 Dallas areas, but it really does belong here too! This is a superb area and often overlooked. It was built from the beginning to be an area just for professionals so it has a newer feel. It has a beautiful canal area with water and restaurants. But it also has a vibrant night life and restaurants area dominated by the Toyota Music Factory – a unique live concert venue. The location is about 15-20 minutes from Uptown and is a smooth commute.
The area is generally VERY safe. And there are quite a few newer apartment and even high rise buildings in this area. Add on top of that that it’s super close to the Airport, which is important to consultants. Finally, rent prices are roughly 5-10% less than Uptown. Las Colinas should definitely be in your consideration! AGGIE THUMBS UP!
McKinney/Allen
A very nice suburb that doesn’t tend to get much props from recent grads is Mckinney Tx. That’s too bad, because it’s quite the beautiful green space kind of place! It’s not going to have the built in night life of other places, but it does have enough great things to do at night at micro areas to make it worth checking into (McKinney Downtown Square for example). There’s a lot of pretty apartments in the area as well. So this would be a good place if you are maybe a remote worker and you want to have a more chill life. I inserted Allen in there too. It’s a smaller town that kind of swirls together with McKinney. There’s a lot of prosperous areas of Allen with many beautiful shops and restaurants too.

FIVE DALLAS BURBS TO AVOID!
Here’s a quick hit list of Burbs that either have just about NO recent grads, have safety issues, or both!
– Lewisville! – No Grads!
– Farmers Branch – UNSAFE!
– Irving – Unsafe, especially in the south part!
– Arlington – Unsafe!
– Garland – No Grads!
